Watch: 12-2 run gets Cavs back into Game 7

Game 7 was starting to look like a blowout. Then Cleveland’s role players went on a run.

Orlando was up by 18 points before Caris LeVert got to the cup twice for big layups. Donovan Mitchell added a layup of his own, as did Isaac Okoro, while Sam Merrill hit a three-pointer and added an assist.

LeVert and Merrill combined for 18 points in the first half, a huge departure from Game 6. In that Cavs loss, LeVert scored only one point and Merrill didn’t play.

The run wasn’t triggered only by Cavaliers reserves stepping up. Orlando’s Franz Wagner sat with six minutes to go after picking up his third foul, his second time fouling Mitchell. When Wagner left, Orlando led by 17. By halftime, their lead was cut to 10 points, 53-43.

Cleveland still needs to find a way to stop Paolo Banchero, who has 24 points at the half. But getting offense from the bench — or anyone at all besides Mitchell — is the only way they’ll survive this home elimination game.
